Ruler Tool

The Ruler helps you measure on-screen elements from within any application. The Ruler can be displayed in three different configurations: Compound, Horizontal and Vertical. Its appearance can also be changed in the Preferences. (Select "Preferences..." from the "Art Directors Toolkit" menu.) Similar to the "Global Results" window, the Ruler will remain visible no matter what application you're using.

When moving or resizing the ruler, grid lines will appear helping you view the area being measured. These grid lines lie outside of the acutal ruler's position/size. You should therefore align these grid lines immediately outside of the element you're measuring to obtain accurate results.

If at any time you have moved the ruler's position off-screen and can no longer access it, simply hide the Ruler and show it again. The Ruler will relocate itself on the screen.

Please note the ruler bases its measurements on 72 pixels per inch. It can also only accurately measure elements on your screen that are previewed at 100%. (i.e. Measuring an image that is previewed at 50% acutal size will give results only half the size of the actual image.)
