Symbol Utility

Use the Symbol utility to help you view the various individual characters contained within a font and obtain information about these characters. You can also use this utility to get information about the fonts on your system.

Choose a Font Family from the popup menu, then choose a Style and click a character in the left display area. On the right, ADT displays the keyboard equivalent*, the character as it appears in its standard text format, the ASCII number, the Hex value, the Unicode value, the HTML entity and the Glyph index for that character. As with all of Art Directors Toolkit's Utilities, selected results can be copied to the clipboard by selecting Copy from the Edit menu. When copying the "Char" (Character) result, font information will not be copied to the clipboard. Only the information that identifies that particular keyboard character will be copied.

It's also possible to copy the selected character as an outline in PDF format to your clipboard by clicking the button with a clipboard icon.

The estimated keyboard equivalent for the currently selected character is also displayed at the bottom-right of the window.

Font information can be viewed in the Font Info window. The Font Info window can be activated by clicking the blue "i" button in the upper right. This window gives you information about the currently selected font such as family, default encoding, format and file location(s). Clicking the "Reveal in Finder" bevel buttons reveals the file in the Finder.
