Short description
When you start the program you will see two lists. You can use one for reference end the other for checking your new MP3s you just got,
or maybe the other one can be list of your favorite songs which you have just dragged over. There are many possibilities for you to use
both lists, but if you prefer you can only have one shown if you click on window and then full screen.
above both lists there are some shortcuts like adding files, loading and clearing lists and statistics for selected files.
All functions manipulating selected items are located under right mouse click menu, with exception of ID3 tag manipulating functions
that are located in the main menu. Manipulating checked items functions are located under checked menu item under main menu. Other
tools and functions will either ask you or will be executed over whole list.
For loading files and lists you can also grab and drop them directly into program or you can provide parameters to program to open desired file/list.
Loading and saving files and lists
To load files into program just select directory from drop down list (where it says "browse for files") then press ADD button, if you
wish to add only selected directory. If you wish to add selected directory and all sub directories then press ADDS button (add subdirectories).
All directories you have added at least one will be displayed in HISTORY tab of drop down menu (for directory selection).
You can also go under File and here you can click add or adds this time you will be prompted for directory, but the function of add and adds
remains the same. You can also click "find all mp3's on my computer" and program will search your whole drive.
To load a list you have previously created or already had, just click LOAD button, and find the list you wish to load.
To save a list just press SAVE button and select file you wish to save to. You can save into different formats
like M3U (winamp play list), MOP (Mp3 Organizer Pro list), and many more.
For loading files and lists you can also grab and drop them directly into program or you can provide parameters to program to open desired file/list.
File manipulations
- Rename file / dir
You can rename file by clicking F2 and selecting a new name or you can use some more advanced renaming tools.
By selecting one or more files and right clicking on list you can change case of selected files (UPPER, First Up, ...), you can
change all separators to spaces or any other separator you wish to have.
If you wish to apply this functions to directory or just the list (without affecting the real file names), right click and
chose different "rename type".
You can also rename files from ID3-tags like it is explained under "File and ID3 tag connections".
- Delete
Deleting items from list is only applied to items that are checked, this is for safety so you don't accidentally delete all
your selected files. If you press the delete key only items from the list will be removed but if you press SHIFT+delete key
then actual files will be deleted from disc.
By right clicking and selecting delete you will delete SELECTED items and not checked items like with delete key, there
are also two functions remove from list and delete from disc.
- Copy and move
You can copy or move selected or checked items from list if there is an option you will be prompt to choose
which to move.
To copy or move files go under Edit and click copy or move button. If you wish to copy files into subdirectory according
to artist, title or any other parameter, you have to chose under Edit, Move Copy Type, and set it to the structure you wish to have.
There are some pre made structures you can use and also you can create your own.
ID3-tag manipulations
- Edit and change parameters
You can already see al ID3v1 (version 1) tags in list, you can show or hide parameters you need by right clicking
on top of the list and turning them on or of.
To get the detailed view of ID3v1 or ID3v2 tags and to be able to change them, you can double click on the list
with your left mouse button, or you can press ENTER key, or you can right click and select "edit ID3-tag" from menu.
In this window (file info) you can change one or many files ID3-tags at once. Be careful not press copy from ID3v1 or ID3v2 and saving
when you have more than one file selected. This window saves to every file currently selected its content.
If you don't wish to save specific field just check the button in front of it. All UNCHECKED fields will be saved, all other will be
ignored and will stay the same as in original file.
When you have more than one file selected you can chose artist or album from drop down menu. In that menu there
are some suggestions retrieved from filename, directory name and ID3 tags.
- Copying between versions 1 and 2
If you wish to copy some files that have the same artist or album or any other parameter, you can do this from
file info window (double click on list).
But if you wish to copy from different files to one version or to the other it is best to use tool under menu ID3 Tags and then
Copy from V1 to V2 or V2 to V1 button.
Synchronize ID3 tags will copy all non empty fields to other version, so both versions will preserve already
filled in fields but will have their empty field filled from other version.
- File and ID3 tag connections
You can easily rename files according to ID3-tag by simply selecting type of you file name after rename and then
clicking "ID3 tag to filename" under ID3 tags menu. If any of your tags are empty they will not be included in filename.
You can also fill id3 tags with data that is in file name. Here it is important to set the type before making a conversion,
if you don't set correct type of conversion then your tags may be filled with wrong data.
- Restoring after a mistake
If you change ID3-tags in one list and you have the same file in the other list you should click on
that list and press "Refresh ID3 tags" from ID3 tag menu.
If by accident you have corrupted your ID3-tags or just changed them into something you wish to undo, you can load
saved list (MOP or XLS type not M3U) in which you have correct ID3 tags and then press "Save list ID3 tag into file"
under ID3 tags menu.
This will only work if you have saved the list before you have made a mistake. So it is strongly encouraged to save your list before
you attempt to modify ID3 tags.
Using database
If you want to catalogue your CDs this is the way to go, also you can save your local MP3 files, since it is
simpler to search trough database.
You can import all your old databases (from previous Mp3 organizer versions) by selecting Database and import to file.
You can split your databases to your files or somebody else's by creating new database under Database, Database file, Create new.
This will enable you to have separated databases for your CDs your disk files or somebody else's CDs.
To simplify adding CDs to database you can use Catalogue CD function under Save to database. This will prompt
you to insert CD and then ask you for Key name (which is only some name you will distinguish it from other, usually
you can give this key the same value as you have the title of your CD).
Once you have some files in your database you can edit it trough Database Editor. If you don't see the list of your files,
reason might be that the database isn't loaded. Right click on the list and press refresh. If you wish to
have your database loaded automatically set it in settings.
You can load items from database to list simply by clicking load and imputing the key to desired CD or group of files.
Usefully tools
- Compare lists to find duplicates
Maybe you have more than one file with the same song and you don't even know it, or you wish to copy a CD from a friend
but you're not sure if you have some songs or no.
Just load your list of MP3s and in other list files you wish to copy and then compare those lists. It is that simple.
You can also check your local files to see if there are some files in different folders that are the same, just load
all your files in one list and compare list with itself to find them.
You can also compare your files with database if you have a huge collection of CD-s and you don't wish to burn a CD with songs
you already have on other CDs.
- Find mistakes
When you type the name of file or album or artist or any other name and you make a mistake which you don't see, but you wish to have
all your files the same case, the same style (beginning with track number following by author, ...) or your file name
has two L-s (ll) instead of one. This tool will help you find those mistakes and help you fix them so your
file names will be spotless :).
Play around with different properties to get the results you desire.
- Find music on CD and copy it to disc
If you have a lot of CDs with MP3s you probably know how annoying it is to create a list of songs from different CDs. First you must find them,
then you must find CD and find them on CD then copy them somewhere on disc.
If you have saved all your CDs in database and you created a list of songs you wish to find (you can do that in normal text file).
This function does everything else. Just load your list into program run this function select where you wish your music to be copied
and insert CD you will be prompt for.
- Remove files smaller than defined size
If you add all MP3s from your computer, there may be some files that are too small to be whole songs and you can simply
remove with this function.
- Easy track numbering
Have you ever tried to set track numbers for whole album? It could take a while, but with this tool you just
drag and drop them onto list and drag them up and down to the position they belong and simply save it.
