What is Smoovie?

Smoovie is an easy-to-use application which lets you create, edit and share Stop Motion movies with the minimum of effort.

Smoovie has two main views: the Library and the Editor. You can switch between them using the View buttons on the left of the toolbar or using the View Menu. See Switching between the Library and the Editor, Working in the Library and Working in the Editor for more detail.

The Library

The Library shows your collection of smoovies.

The Library is split into two sections. On the left of the window is the Smoovie Library, a list of all the smoovies you are working on, each with a thumbnail of its first frame as a reminder. To the right of the Library is the Virtual Cinema where you can watch your completed smoovies.

The Editor

The Editor is where you work on your smoovie. It is split into three sections:

  1. The Scene List on the left of the Editor shows a list of all the scenes in your smoovie and here you can rearrange, copy, paste and delete them. See Working with Scenes
  2. Beside it is the Frame List which is a list of all the frames within the currently selected scene. Here you can rearrange, copy, paste and delete frames. See Working with Frames
  3. On the right of the Editor is the Playback View which displays the frame at the current position of the playhead. When the camera is turned on for image capture, the Playback View displays the live video feed from your camera. See Using the Camera.

Also within the Editor you can add a music soundtrack to your smoovie (see Adding a Music Soundtrack), adjust the speed of playback of individual scenes (see Adjusting the Playback Speed), adjust the aspect ratio (see Adjusting the Aspect Ratio) and also choose how your images fit into the frames (see Adjusting the Cropping Mode). These settings are accessed via the Inspector. See Using the Inspector.

Sharing your smoovie

You can share your finished smoovie on YouTube, send it to iTunes for viewing on your Apple TV, iPhone or iPad, or save it to your computer as a movie file. See Sharing your Smoovies.
